How can I test my joystick?
- Get the program JOYTEST from our webpage.
- Make shure that you have installed DOS drivers of your soundcard including game port
driver.
- Power up your PC and press F8 on your keyboard since the slection menue is coming up
- Select Option Command prompt
- To test the basic output of your game controller, run the JOYTEST program.
This test will show you the current position and values (fluctuating numbers) your
joystick, throttle and rudders (if applicable) are sending as described by the chart
below.
Note:
The fluctuation in the values is normal as long as it does not exceed 1-2% of the
number.
The joystick itself will change position in the box under X and Y axes only.
The joystick's throttle will change the number values under Y2 axis (throttle) only.
The rudders will change the values under X2 (rudder) axis only.
For example, holding your joystick in the upper-left hand corner should give you its
corresponding position in the square box on the screen.
When the joystick is centered up, you should get the point approximately fixed at the
center of the box.
Whenever you move the joystick, the point will move in the same direction.
Whenever you push the buttons, the circle under the square box will light on individually
recording each buttons.
Press the [Space] bar to retry or [Esc] to leave the test program.
If this is not the case, you may have a game port conflict or perhaps a defective game
controller.
To make sure, plug in and check a different game controller to see if it also does not
return correct movement (X and Y).
If it does not, you probably have either a game port conflict or defective game card.
If the second joystick shows correct response, you may need to have your controller
serviced.
What do I need to get 4-button joystick
working?
All Genius game controllers require a standard game port that supports at least two
joysticks for full functionality. Many game ports can support two joysticks through a
single port (using a Y adapter). Currently, most dedicated game cards and sound card game
ports have joystick ports.
Note:
Most game ports on multi-I/O cards used on non-PCI systems do not support the two-joystick
standard. For this reason, we do not recommend using a game port on a multi-I/O cards.
How to setup the joystick for DOS
games?
All DOS-based games (even those launched from Windows) use their own joystick drivers and
do not need to use the joystick setup in Windows 9x. Instead, you must setup and calibrate
the joystick within the actual game. Locate the game's Options or Control menu to select
and calibrate your joystick
How to check resources of my game port?
- Click on Start > Settings >Control Panel, and double-click on System.
- Click on the Device Manager tab and open Sound, video and game controllers.
- Double-click on the Game port/joystick driver.
- Click on the Resources Tab. The Input /Output range should be between
0200-0207.

Windows 95 displays the message,
"Your joystick is not connected correctly"
- Make sure the joystick is connected to a "Game Port."
A 15-pin connector on the back of the system does NOT always indicate a game port.
Other peripherals also use 15-pin connections, such as, Network or MIDI music
connections.
Therefore, it is important to verify you are connected to a game port.
- Check to see that the game port is enabled, and it is the only enabled game port on the
system.
It could be the port may be physically installed but not turned on for the system to
use.
To enable the port, refer to the documentation, or contact the game port manufacturer for
instructions.
- If you are connected to the correct port and it is enabled, then check the system in
case a second game port is enabled.
If you locate a second port, then disable it. There should only be one active game
port on the system, as two active ports can cause a conflict.
In some cases, a game port is integrated into the motherboard of the computer , and when a
game card is installed into the system, it conflicts with the pre-existing port.
- Verify the game card is a dual port card. To get full functionality from the joystick
you must have at least a dual port game card.
Please do not confuse this with a two-connector or two-plug game card. When we refer
to ports, we refer the circuitry of the card itself.
A dual port game card is one designed to support two, two-button joysticks. These
two ports are often called "A" and "B".
A single port game card would only have an "A", while a dual port game card
would have an "A" and a "B".
- Check the resources of your game port. The Input /Output range should be between
0200-0207.
