Problem with Genius Mouse in Windows 95 DOS-Box
If you got problems in Windows DOS-Box, we suggest to delete the DOS mouse driver from autoexec.bat. In Windows 95 DOS-Box the driver isn't needed, because Windows 95 load it's own mouse driver. If you don't do so, you will have a conflict between two drivers which are trying to manage the same device.

Problem with Genius Mouse in Windows 3.x DOS-Box
Add in the above section of SYSTEM.INI the following:

[NonWindowsApp]-Section

MouseInDosBox=1

[386enh]

local=PC$MOUSE

No 3-button function under Windows 95/98
Possible causes:

  1. For using the 3-button function under Windows 95/98, you need MouseMate Control Panel for Windows 95/98. Please load from our server the file MM98.EXE.

  2. PS/-Port of your system isn't enabled in BIOS. Please check your BIOS settings.

  3. You have an old mouse with 2/3-buuton slide switch. This typ of mouse is using the Mousesystems (5-byte protocol) which sin't supported anymore under Windows 9x. all new mices are using the enhanced 4-byte protocol.

  4. Hardware defect. Please re-bbot your system and press F8 on your keyboard since the Windows option screen appears. Now select the option command prompt. Put driver disk into floppy drive and run the GMOUSE.COM. If your mouse is detected, system will prompt you with the information about the used COM port and ressources.

Remove MouseMate Control Panel (V2.181) under Windows 95
Click Start\Run, type in REGEDIT, and press Enter. See the Registry Editor program, kind of like File Manager. Press Ctrl-F and it should say "Find What". Type in "CP95", and press Enter. If it is found, press the delete key on the keyboard to delete the item, and confirm by clicking on "Yes". Go to the far upper-right corner of the editor program and click on the "X" box to close.

Pointer moves horizontally but not vertically (or vice-versa). Your mouse may need cleaning. Occasionally, even if the product is brand new, it may have some dust leftover in it from the manufacturing process, and need cleaning.

Pointer moves erratically/computer behaves unpredictably/keyboard locks up
If your mouse is connected to a PS/2-style mouse port, then try moving the mouse to a serial port. In some cases, the port may not be 100% compatible with the original IBM PS/2 mouse port, and older Genius Systems mice may be overly strict about adhering to that standard, such that erratic pointer movement may result. Move the mouse to a serial port to see if this alleviates the problem. Make sure the power is off when unplugging the mouse from the round PS/2-style mouse port.

This type of behavior can also be caused by poor grounding. Make sure your mouse, computer, and building are grounded properly.

Modem stopped working when mouse installed
The most common cause of this problem is a conflict of hardware resources. The mouse is probably connected to a serial port which is configured to use the same hardware resources as the modem. Either the serial port or the modem will have to be reconfigured. KYE Systems Support will not be able to help with such reconfiguration. It is recommended that you contact the modem manufacturer or take the computer to a dealer or service center to have the serial port reconfigured.

Pointer moves too fast/slow or mouse pad to small
The mouse speed setting determines the rate at which the pointer moves across the screen as you move the mouse. Mouse speed is a user-adjustable setting which is usually set in the mouse control panel, depending on your mouse driver software. If you have to pick up your mouse too often in order to move the pointer across the screen, your mouse speed setting is probably set too low.

How to install MouseMate 98 under Windows NT4.0
1. Load from our webpage the file MM98.EXE which contains the 3-button driver.
2. Expand file.
3. Run the SETUP of the driver and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Restart Windows NT4.0
5. Check  under Windows control Panel, if the MouseMate  is added to the device list.

Single click works, but double-click doesn't
When this problem occurs, it is usually because the double-click speed is set too high. Try setting it lower. Double-click speed is a user-adjustable setting usually found in the mouse control panel, depending on your driver version.

Cleaning a Mouse

  1. While holding the mouse upside down, remove the ball retainer ring by gently sliding or twisting it, and set aside.

  2. Cup your hand over the ball socket and turn the mouse right-side-up again so that the ball falls into the palm of your hand.

  3. Gently blow over the ball and into the ball socket to get rid of any dust or other foreign matter.

  4. Using cellophane tape rolled around a finger, with the adhesive surface outward, carefully clean the idler wheels that touch the ball surface. Roll the idler wheels and clean the back side also.

  5. Reassemble the mouse

Can I connect a serial mouse via adapter to PS/2-Port?
No
PS/2 and serial mouses use different communication protocols and signal levels and they can't be
generally used in other interface just by changing the plug. You can only connect PS/2 mouse or mouse which supports both Serial and PS/2. Refer to the label on the backside of your mouse. There must be printed PS/2 or Serial +  PS/2.

Why is the document still browsing after I have stopped clicking the Magic-Button?
The browsing speed is not only depends on the speed you selected in the Control Panel, but also depends on the CPU speed of your PC and the volume of data being processed. If the transfer rate of the CPU is slower than the data rate the mouse sent, the above situation will occur.
